Notes from the Biwa Club

The Biwa (Japanese for Loquat) Club has to be one of my favorite places to visit. Not only to check on the thousands of items made from loquat and other local crops but just to get a feel for what an integrated operation should include. You can read much more on the site about the club. This year I did notice more products from other locally grown Chiba crops like peanuts and blueberries. The integration of surrounding areas including a small creek and nanohana (canola) field added to the overall feel.  It was the height of strawberry season when I visited, and 7 large buses lined up our front to take visitors from Tokyo to you-pick farms.  This started as a rest stop but has since turned into its own destination.
